The New York C.S. Lewis Society, founded in 1969, is the oldest society focused on Lewis’s work. For years, the group met in person in New York City. Then came the pandemic of 2020. New York City was hit particularly hard, and the Society moved to meetings via Zoom. The shift to online meetings enabled non-residents of NYC to “attend.”

The Society features a wide variety of speakers at its monthly meetings, followed by a lively Q&A. Some of the topics are over my head, while others prompted me to email the speaker to express gratitude. I discovered newly-released books about Lewis that I would not have found otherwise. Overall, the virtual meetings have whetted my appetite and caused me to dig deeper.

Anyone can listen in. The Society meets on the 2nd Friday of each month (except August) at 7 pm Eastern time. They will send you a link in a reminder email upon request. Or you can find the link under the “Meetings” tab on their website: https://www.nycslsociety.com/meetings-1

The New York C.S. Lewis Society also publishes a Bulletin six times a year – featuring articles, book reviews, and meeting reports. (Again, go to their website under the tab “CSL Bulletin.”) My mother began subscribing to the “CSL: The Bulletin of the New York C.S. Lewis Society” in 1988. I have all her back issues. Then in 2005, I began my own membership/subscription. We are two generations who have been enriched through the work of the New York C.S. Lewis Society.
